TRALEE native and winner of last year's Miss Gay Ireland Caitriona McCaughley handed over her crown at a packed gala ball in Tralee on Friday night. Caitriona, a former soldier, was crowned Miss Gay Ireland 2012 at The George Bar in Dublin last year. The annual pageant is held in the title holder's home town every year and on Friday night The Tralee Central Hotel played host to the contest which saw Caitriona taking her final bow as Miss Gay Ireland.
More than 250 members of Ireland's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community were in Tralee for the final of the 2013 competition and the glitzy gala ball that followed it. They were welcomed to Tralee by Mayor Pat Hussey who mingled with guests and officially opened proceedings before handing over to host drag artists and DJ Charmin Elektrik.
Eight women, including another Tralee native Miss Gay Kerry 2013 Jennifer Bowler, took to the stage to compete for the national title which was eventually awarded to Cork native Lynn Geary. Runner up was Miss Gay Limerick Lisa Daly who also won the pageant's Miss Congeniality prize.
