As Mayor of Tralee, I wish to extend a 'céad míle fáilte' to each and every one of you.
On behalf of the people of Tralee it is my wish that you enjoy every aspect of the Rose of Tralee Festival. The festival is an integral part of our calender and we eagerly anticipate its arrival every August.
It is a family festival with people travelling from all parts of the globe to support their Rose or just to enjoy all the town of Tralee has to offer. This year of course with The Gathering we are hoping even more people will make an extra special effort to attend and we know their efforts will be rewarded.
Of course the Rose Of Tralee festival wouldn't be possible without the trojan work of the Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, Red Cross, and the team of stewards that give so selflessly of their time each year. The festival committee, led by General Manager Oliver Hurley works year round to ensure the success of the festival and to make it the international festival it is today. The success of the festival is due in no small part to the huge commitment of all these local groups and organisations. Ní neart gan cur le chéile!
As the capital of Kerry, Tralee boasts a wide variety of tourist attractions. It is a town steeped in a strong sporting tradition, mirrored by the facilities on offer including The Aqua Dome, Tralee Sports and Leisure Centre and Ballyseedy Woods, not to mention the numerous walkways recently developed in the town.
Tralee County Library, Kerry County Museum and Blennerville Windmill - with the new addition of the model steam railway - all reflect the strong heritage of our town. Siamsa Tíre is the cultural home of the Kingdom with locals and tourists alike flocking to see the shows, exhibitions and workshops on offer for all ages.
The Tralee Wetlands Centre is a most welcome amenity to the town and places importance on the ecosystems in Tralee and its environs.
Of course the jewel in the heart of Tralee town is our Town Park where children can play in the playground or a quiet, leisurely stroll through the Garden of the Senses can be enjoyed.
So this year whether you are travelling from near or far bígí linn and bring home an experience not to be forgotten.
