The man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons came before Judge Carroll Moran at Tralee Circuit Court on Monday charged with two separate counts of sexual assault against a minor.

His case was due to proceed to a full jury trial on Wednesday however on Monday afternoon, following consultation with his legal team, he elected to change his plea to guilty.

He subsequently pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a person aged under 15 at a laneway in a mid Kerry area on a date unknown between December 9 2011 and January 9 2012 and to the sexual assault of a person aged under 15 in a bedroom of a house in the same area on December 9 2012.

Defence Barrister Anthony Sammon described his client as a "very young man who is charged with a very serious offence."

Sentencing in the case was adjourned until March 8 2013 to allow the preparation of a probation report.

Following a request by Prosecution Barrister Mr Tom Rice the accused man was remanded in continuing custody to Cork Prison, where he has been detained since his arrest in connection with the assaults.
