Man in court on series of burglary charges

A POLISH national living in the Beaufort area has been charged in connection with a spate of burglaries across mid-Kerry that caused huge concern among local communities.

Daniel Seweryn Mirga (29), appeared at a special sitting of Tralee District Court on Tuesday charged with six counts of trespassing and theft and two counts of trespassing with intent to commit theft. The incidents are alleged to have occurred at Shanara Lower, Churchtown, Kilgobnet, Glencar, Farantooreen and Kells and the accused faces a further charge of handling stolen property in Killarney.

He has been released on bail with a curfew between 8pm and 8am, and is due to appear at Killorglin District Court on Thursday.

The defendant was one of three men arrested on Sunday night and questioned in connection with the incidents. Two were released following questioning and gardaí say that these investigations are continuing. Meanwhile, another man was arrested on Monday night and questioning was ongoing yesterday (Tuesday).

It is understood that a number of items, including jewellery and electrical goods, have been recovered as a result of the Garda investigations.
