Man dies in fall from Blarney Castle

A Kerry man died when he fell from Blarney Castle early on Monday in a tragedy that has shocked his home town of Ballybunion. Michael Andrew Beazley was pronounced dead at the scene after staff at the famous castle raised the alarm around 10.30am on Monday morning.

Mr Beazley, a father-of-one in his twenties, is not believed to have fallen from the part of the Castle that houses the famous Blarney Stone.

Gardaí in Ballincollig investigating the tragedy said they are not treating the death as suspicious, meanwhile. It is understood that Mr Beazley had been living in Cork in recent years.

Ballybunion was shocked by news of the tragedy where Mr Beazley's father Michael Flaherty lives. His mother Ann Beazley and sister live in America. "My condolences are with his family on this tragic time for them," Ballybunion County Councillor Robert Beasley - no relation - said.

Mr Beazley's Funeral Mass takes place on Saturday in Ballybunion.
