Man charged after seizure of €140k drugs

A MAN is to appear at Tralee District Court on Wednesday charged in connection with the seizure of over €140,000-worth of cannabis and cocaine in Ardfert on Friday.
Matthew Waugh, Sackville, Ardfert, was remanded in custody to the Tralee court from a special sitting of Killarney District Court on Saturday at 9pm.
Judge James O'Connor heard that Mr Waugh is charged with three counts of the unlawful possession of drugs for the purposes of sale and supply. He is charged with the possession of over €100,000-worth of cannabis herb for the purposes of sale and supply; the possession of €40,000-worth of cannabis resin for the purposes of sale and supply and with the possession of a quantity of cocaine for the purposes of sale and supply.
The offences are alleged to have occured at Sackville, Ardfert, on Friday's date, May 31. Gardaí informed the court that it is likely further, serious charges against the accused could be brought pending a decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr Waugh was represented by solicitor Pat Mann at Killarney District Court on Saturday where gardaí sought to remand him in custody. Mr Waugh did not apply for bail and Judge O'Connor remanded the man in custody to appear before Tralee District Court on Wednesday.
