A 74-YEAR-OLD Cahersiveen man has appeared before a south Kerry court charged with multiple counts of indecent assault.

Danny O'Connor, Carhan Road, Cahersiveen, appeared before Judge James O'Connor at Cahersiveen District Court on Thursday to face the charges of indecent assault that date back over 30 years.

Defence solicitor Pádraig O'Connell indicated that his client would be pleading not guilty to all charges.

Mr O'Connor was arrested, charged and cautioned outside Cahersiveen Garda station prior to the court sitting. Following a brief outline of the charges, Mr O'Connell applied for a court order prohibiting publication of the defendant's identity. The application was refused by Judge James O'Connor who adjourned the case until the October sitting of Cahersiveen District Court when the book of evidence is to be served. The Director of Public Prosecutions has already ruled that the case is to be forwarded to the circuit court to be heard before a judge and jury.
