HIP hop legend Coolio is looking forward to visiting Kerry after a surreal meeting with a Lixnaw man and his college friends in the UK last week.
In what was the undoubtedly the most bizarre night of his entire life, Lorcan O'Mahony was among a group of Lancashire University students who were treated to a three course meal and an early morning acoustic session with the world-famous rapper.
The undergraduates were at the American star's gig in Preston and met him at an after party, where he amazingly offered to call to their digs the following evening to cook them all dinner.
And true top his word - and to Lorcan and his friends' absolute shock - the Gangsta's Paradise singer did exactly that, but not before sending the students to Tesco first to buy the ingredients.
Dinner was followed by a late night jamming session - which has since been uploaded on Youtube and has made headlines across the UK and Ireland - where Lorcan is seen on playing guitar to an acoustic rendition of the famous hit.
The Lixnaw student spoke to the star at length about the beauty of his native Kerry and his vivid description was enough to prompt Coolio to want to visit. "I was speaking to him about where I'm from and how beautiful Kerry is and he told me that he loves Ireland whenever he goes and would love to visit Kerry," Lorcan told The Kerryman.
"I also managed to teach him to say 'Sláinte' when we were drinking. He was also actually very well read in in the historical transport of Irish slaves and we had a bit of a conversation about that. He was very interested in Irish history and how it tied with his ancestry."
Meanwhile, so impressed was the award-winning artist with the Kerry man's musical talent that he later invited him to perform at his gig in Preston the following evening.
"It's fairly mad. I'll be getting mileage out of this for years," Lorcan said afterwards.
