FROM our oldest monuments to our modern political and social history, a new book by a Ballyduff historian Seán Quinlan offers a remarkably comprehensive view of the big picture in Kerry.

The 2013 annual of Kerry, 'The Kingdom, The Power and The Glory' will be launched at Kerry County Library at 7pm on Tuesday, December 17, next by North Kerry Partnership CEO Eamonn O'Reilly. The book is the latest addition to Mr Quinlan's long-running project Leabhar Mór Chiarraí (Great Book of Kerry) trilogy.

"Once again a wide range of topics are covered with references to some of our most precious monuments such as ogham stones, standing stones, ring forts, holy wells and buildings of significant religious significance," Mr Quinlan said.

"The history of Kerry's middle ages receives worthwhile attention yet again, while our more modern history draws on a wide range of sources which I include in this annual. Other topics covered are our sporting, military, along with political and social history."

All of it is underpinned with reproductions of the documents covered by Mr Quinlan's research. The Ballyduff man intends bringing more annuals into the public sphere in the coming years as he uncovers even more fascinating nuggets from our rich history.

Everyone interested is invited to attend the Tuesday launch at the library in Tralee.
