Local charities invited to apply for races funds

THE Castleisland Races Committee has raised and presented over €105,400 to local charities over the past eight years. That fact alone should provide an ample spur to such organisations to apply for the proceeds of this year's June meeting.

The annual general meeting of the said committee will take place on Friday night, January 25 at Tom McCarthy's Bar at 9pm. New members are being sought out and wanted by the over-worked committee.

Up for discussion will be this year's street festival to be held in the run-up to and in conjunction with the two-day race meeting.

Though plagued by bad weather last June, the revived street festival laid down a marker for the future. It also recalled the fun days of the famous street carnivals and fancy dress parades of years gone by.

While the whole show is run by the dynamic Charlie Farrelly - and a team of high viz vested volunteers - more help is needed on the streets for this year's event.

The meeting at Tom McCarthy's will allow you the opportunity to become a festival volunteer.

For charities interested in applying for the proceeds of this year's festival they can do so by writing to: Ms. Kay Reidy, Dulaig North, Castleisland, Co. Kerry. The deadline for application is the date of the AGM, Friday, January 25, 2013.
