ACTION-packed racing and an great programme of post race entertainment lies in store at this year's Listowel Races, which celebrates its 155th anniversary this September.

The milestone event, which was officially launched this week, will take place from September 15 - 21, promising top quality national hunt and flat racing over seven days, in addition to lots of free entertainment, giveaways, competitions and music.

This year's Festival opens with the Kerry Group Day and free children's entertainment all day on Sunday, September 15, while racing highlights during the week include the legendary €160k Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase (Grade A) Chase on Wednesday; the €40k Guinness Handicap Hurdle on Thursday, and the Listowel Races Supporters Club Sponsored Race 'The Slan Abhaile" on Saturday.

In addition to the racing, the event will also host the Moriarty's Best Dressed Man competition on Thursday, September 19, followed by the Chic Boutique Ladies Day on Friday. This is the 22nd year that Mary Flaherty of Chic Boutique will sponsor the event, making it one of the longest independent fashion retailer race sponsorships in Ireland.

The event will be judged once again by TV star and Rose of Tralee host Daithí O Sé and style icon Celia Holman Lee, with a prize fund over €9,000 up for grabs

"We are looking forward to a wonderful week's racing ahead. Everything is in place and hopefully the weather will be kind to us and will make it an enjoyable week all round, with plenty of good racing ensured," Listowel Race Company secretary Brendan Daly said at the launch.
