KERRY'S lady footballers may be busy preparing for Sunday's All-Ireland Final but that didn't stop a few team members from taking time out of training recently to make a special trip to their former school.
Cullina National School past pupils Patrice Dennehy and team captain Bernie Breen visited the Beaufort school to help celebrate the opening of its new extension and they were joined on the day by Kerry AllStar Kieran Donaghy.
The school now boasts two new offices, a spacious and welcoming reception area and a converted learning support room and all rooms were blessed by Parish Priest Fr Donal O'Connor on the day.
Also joining staff, students and parents were were Board Chairperson Griff Griffiths, Parents' Association Chairperson Rosemary Mangan and Treasurer Anna O'Sullivan.
"It creates a nice ambience, bright, cheerful and warm and sets the tone for the children," Principal Moira Cronin said about the new building.
"I wish to thank architect Rory McGillycuddy and our builders for work that blends the older building with the new and for carrying out the work over the summer holidays"
With all 177 pupils allowed to wear their jerseys for the big event, a sea of green and gold greeted Kerry's heroes. The lady stars were given a huge send off ahead of Sunday's final while Kieran promised to return with the Sam Maguire the following year.
