A KILLARNEY army captain has been appointed President of Representative Association of Commissioned Officers (RACO).
Captain Ian Harrington is the first captain to hold this position since the foundation of RACO in 1991, having served as vice president of the representative organisation for the last two years.
The staff association represents the interests of officers in the Defence Forces, encompassing the Army, Air Corp and Naval Service, who have been commissioned by the President of Ireland to uphold loyalty to the state. As president, Lough Guittane resident Captain Harrington will have a casting vote on decisions taken at national executive level.
After his election success at Mckee Barracks Dublin recently, Captain Harrington said his priority for his two-year ter, as president was to uphold the honour of his profession at a most challenging time for the country.
Ian Harrington is married to Valerie, nee Trant, and the couple have three children. Captain Harrington is currently serving in the 32nd Battalion based in Tralee.
