KERRYMAN journalist Marisa Reidy (right) is among the contenders for the Regional Journalist of the Year in the National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI) Journalism Awards 2012 being announced this week.
She is one of four regional reporters shortlisted in the category and one of 77 contenders, across 18 categories, selected from a massive field of 603 entries.
Marisa was nominated for three hardhitting features in the past 12 months; including an interview with Kelly O'Brien, whose husband Anthony and daughter Nadine perished in a fire at their Tralee home in May of this year. Kelly's deep pain and anguish was seared on the imagination of the county through Marisa's sensitive coverage of her case. Meanwhile, Joe Leogue of our sister paper The Corkman is also in the running for the Regional Journalist of the Year. Joe was shortlisted for a number of illuminating articles, including an investigative report into the cost of a new Primary Care centre in Macroom.
The awards take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Dublin on Thursday.
