Brian Fincuance, from Ballylongford, has been a member of the union for 20 years and set up the north Kerry branch of the People Before Profit Alliance earlier this year.

He said the hecklers at the rally were merely voicing their deep anger over the constant slew of State cuts and the way in which they feel they have been left down by the State and union bosses. Hecklers voiced their disappoinment with ' boos' and other remarks for speakers to get off the stage.

"As a SIPTU member for the past 20 years I'm extremely upset that our president Jack O'Connor would refer to the people who heckled as 'fascists'. I was at it and all I heard were boos and other remarks. For him to call other members fascist is unacceptable and he should withdraw his offensive remarks."
