Kerry jobless tally dropped by 1,600 in the last year

The number of people signing on in Kerry has fallen by 1,606 since January 2016, according to the latest Live Register figures published by the Central Statistics Office.

There were 11,106 people signing on in Kerry's seven social welfare offices last month, compared with 12,712 in January 2016.

While there was a monthly increase of 330 on the December figure, this is in line with annual trends - seen since the early 2000s - which sees the live register swelling from September to February and declining during the tourist season.

In January, there were 4,552 people signing on in Tralee, up 38; In Killarney there were 2,021 on the register, up 170 and the Listowel register was at 2,006 up by eight.

In Killorglin the register stands at 842, up two; Dingle's register is at 703, up 19; the Kenmare register is at 531, up 88; and in Cahersiveen the register is at 451, up five.
