WITH the south Kerry village of Sneem already gearing up for the filming of Hollywood blockbuster 'The Lobster', another Kerry screen success is set to open in cinemas across the country.

The award winning film Run & Jump was shot almost entirely in locations around the county, including Tralee, Dingle and Slea Head. Co-written by Kerry woman Ailbhe Keogan, the film will open in Irish cinemas on May 2 following its successful Dublin premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival last month.

'Run and Jump' stars Emmy nominated Will Forte of 'Nebraska' and '30 Rock', Maxine Peake and Edward MacLiam along with a strong supporting cast which includes Sharon Horgan, Ruth McCabe and Michael Harding.

The film is directed and co-written Academy Award nominated Steph Green and tells the story of an American doctor (Forte) who travels to Ireland to study the Casey family after 38-year-old husband and father Conor suffers a personality changing stroke.

Speaking ahead of the cinema release in May Steph Green said: "It was wonderful to work with a script that was written to be set in Kerry. Spending time in Kerry writing with Ailbhe was important as it grounded me into the environment and characters."

"To then come back and shoot in the region, with such support locally, was a tremendous experience to have and one that I will long treasure," she added.

'Run & Jump' is Green's debut feature following the success of her short film New Boy which was nominated for an Oscar in 2010.

The Kerry film had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last year and since then has won numerous accolades including the Best Irish Feature and Best First Feature awards at the Galway Film Fleadh and the Silver Spike award for Best Film at the Valladolid International Film Festival.

The film is currently on release in the USA where it has been receiving glowing reviews.
