A FREE information evening, offering advice about the most important skills and qualifications needed when seeking employment, will take place at Colaiste Ide agus Iosef in Abbeyfeale on Monday next, December 3.
Management at the local community education centre, who have organised the Education for Employment event, have invited ex governor of Mountjoy, John Lonergan, as their keynote speaker on the night.
Abbeyfeale Community Education Centre manager Breda Deedigan - who coordinated the event with adult education director Ryan Kelly - said the night will see local employers chat to job seekers about the skills and qualifications they would need for future employment.
"These people may not be hiring at the moment but the objective is to get them together and outline the key skills they would be looking for if they were employing," Breda said. "It's also about trying to ensure people are correctly trained in the relevant skills employers are looking for these days."
A highlight of the evening will be the keynote address from John Lonergan, who has 24 years as senior prison officer at Mountjoy. "He's an inspirational speaker and someone who has seen the other side of life and can offer some valuable advice from his experience," Breda said.
Representatives from County Limerick VEC, Back to Education, Community Education, Adult Literacy and Adult Guidance will also attend the presentation, which begins at 6.30pm.
