KERRY resident Dr Tom Farrelly, who lives in Firies, has been awarded the first ever Doctorate of Education from Trinity College, Dublin.
Mr Farrelly, a native of Dublin who has been living in Kerry for the past 11 years, has been working with St John of Gods, Kerry Education Services and the Institute of Technology, Tralee. He currently works part time as a literacy trainer for the KES and as a lecturer in the Nursing and Social Care programme in the ITT.
He already holds a BA in Social Care and a Masters in Education. He says that his return to education was fully supported by the ITT, and he is now looking forward to sharing his new knowledge with the institute.
"The ITT has supported me very much," he said. "The college is very aware that they are part of a community and its role is to support."
'There is a great commitment to making learning flexible and facilitating it."
