DANNO's Restaurant and Bar provided the location for the official launch of the 2014 Dingle Walking Festival which will take place this year from Friday, February 14 to Sunday, February 16.
Joining festival director Colm Bambury in launching the various routes which will be available to walkers over the course of the festival were Fionnáin Ó hÓgáin of Údarás na Gaeltachta, Jim Garvey of Garvey's SuperValu, Jerry Sullivan of the Dingle Brewery and Mayor of Kerry Cllr Seamus Cosaí Fitzgerald.
Dingle Walking Festival this year includes a night walk around Dingle on the Friday which will include a trip to the Dingle Brewery. Registration for walks on Saturday and Sunday will take place in Danno's on Strand Street and the schedule of walks is varied to accommodate walkers of different abilities with a number of routes (of varying duration) on offer covering areas such as Mount Brandon, Conor Pass, Mount Eagle and The Dingle Way.
The Dingle Walking Festival was established by Colm Bambury in 2011 and has consistently attracted hundreds of walkers to the peninsula during what is traditionally a quiet time of the year in Corca Dhuibhne. Last year, despite poor weather conditions, it was estimated that over 600 walkers took part and the organisers are confident that the festival will attract similar numbers this year.
Full information including details of walking routes available and how to register is now available at the event's official website, DingleWalkingFestival.com. People can also contact festival director Colm at 087-2222248.
