Launching Lixnaw GAA Club's 'Strictly Come Dancing' fundraiser at The Railway Bar on Saturday night were, from left: Lisa McKenna, Conor O'Brien, Lesley McKenna, Joe Browne, Seán Flaherty and Jacinta McCarthy.

WE'VE all seen what they're capable of doing on the hurling field, but now five of Lixnaw's hurling stars are set to showcase their skills on the dance floor as they take part in the club's Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser on December 1.

John Tweek Griffin, James Flaherty, Conor Fitzmaurice, Ricky Heffernan and Conor O'Brien will be jiving, waltzing and shimmying their way across the dance floor of Ballyroe Heights Hotel in what promises to be a fantastic night of entertainment, which will see 12 couples in total vie for the overall prize.

Well known Listowel publican Christy Walsh will also be sporting his best dancing shoes on the night, while some local ladies including Emma O'Brien, Joan Silles, Karen McKenna, Lisa McKenna and Christina Buckley will also showing off their dance moves.

Club chairman Sean Flaherty paid tribute to all 12 couples who have been working extremely hard over the last month to perfect their dances, under the tutelage of Tralee dance instructor Debbie O'Driscoll. Sean explained that everyone will perform a group dance to kick start the night, before each couple dances an individual routine and a winner is chosen. Afterwards, all the contestants will again regroup for the finale.

"They'll each be doing three dances on the night so it's been a lot of work and they have been putting so much effort in," Sean said. "It promises to be a great night but a very important one too in terms of fundraising for the club."

Tickets for the event are available from all club members and contestants.
