A NEW book that highlights the mental strength and endurance of 12 Kerry people who have overcome individual struggles has been launched by Arts Mnister, Deputy Jimmy Deenihan.

' Wildflower Bouquet - Peeling Back the Petals of Life' is a collection of 12 stories that share a common theme - all the authors, each wounded in a different way, recognised the need for a better life and sought help and support.

The authors came together in a personal development group supported by Kerry Education Service, where each found a supportive space where they could share their diverse experiences and learn coping skills.

Group facilitator Anne Dempsey explained that the purpose of the book is to reach out to other people who may be isolated and feeling that there is little chance of positive change in their lives and help them arrive at a place where they are ready and able to make choices that will empower them.

With the help and guidance of editor John McGrath of Moybella Press, the end result is 12 remarkable stories that, he says, are testimony to the courage and endurance of the human spirit.

A painting entitled ' Wildflower Bouquet' by artist John Hurley beautifully illustrates the book cover and provides an apt title for the collection of stories. The artist has donated the painting to the authors so that it can be sold or raffled to raise money to further this work locally.

The book, priced at €8, is available in libraries across the county.
