IT appears horses are being sold by the body part in Ballybunion this week, but thankfully only on a virtual level, as organisers of this year's Fleadh Ceoil Chiarraí prepare for an upcoming fundraising race night in the town.
The event is due to take place in The Cashen Bar on Sunday, May 6, and will be the final fundraiser before the county fleadh hits the north Kerry town this June. A number of races will be held on the night, each being sponsored by local businesses. Punters or syndicates can also invest in horses, with a leg of a horse costing €20 and the whole horse costing €80. Owners of each winning horse will share in a prize fund of €200, while bookies will also be on hand to take bets.
"Already there is a lot of hype around the night. It has been some time since there was a video race night in Ballybunion so this will be a great night," said D
enise Wren of the organising committee."
Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí will take place from June 18 to 24, highlights of which will include a singing club, opening night concert, busking competitions for children and adults and, weather permitting a barbecue on the Sunday.
