TRADERS in Listowel have again called on Listowel Town Council to relocate the town's horse fairs from Market Street, claiming the quarterly fairs are bad for business.
Kelly Browne of the Listowel Independent Traders Association has claimed that the horse fairs, 'close down the town for business' each time they are held and said the relocation of the event should be a priority
Ms Browne was addressing Monday night's meeting of Listowel Town Council, where she asked that the fair be 'moved off to another location' sooner rather than later. She was representing close to 40 traders in the town who are affiliated to the group.
Cllr Tom Walsh said the Council has a duty to balance the concerns of the traders and the rights of those who conduct the fair and said he was hopeful that both sides would look at the issue constructively.
The town clerk David O'Brien said the council would examine legal issues that needed to be taken into consideration in relation to relocating the fair.
