A COMMITTEE has been formed in the area here and a 'Bereavement Awareness Group' set up as a result. It will function under the auspices of 'Méala' and with the help of facilitator, Denis Robinsion.
North & East Kerry Development has provided funding and has made courses available to prospective members of the group.
The group meets twice a month on the second and fourth Thursdays at the N.E.K.D. building - near An Riocht AC at The Crageens between 7and 9pm.
"We encourage people to come along to share and find a place of comfort and confidentiality. We have all suffered the pain associated with grief and we understand what it's all about," said a group spokesperson.
"This group is only in its infancy. It's already growing as people get to know that it can be of benefit to them. We urge anyone to come along no matter what stage of loss they're at. If they feel the the time is right for them we are here to welcome them to the group."
"We will be there for each other. So, thankfully, we now have our own room, a caring atmosphere and, above all, a group ethos of trust and confidentiality. We operate in an atmosphere where advice giving or preaching is not part of our programme. We share experiences and thoughts and even sit and ponder. Smiles and tears are an acceptable ingredient of our average gatherings - and the cuppa works wonders. You really have nothing to lose - but so much to gain. Our door is open," the spokesperson concluded. The Castleisland Bereavement Awareness Group can be contacted on: 087 6092618.
