A TEENAGER girl was forced to set her dog on a man who tried to coax her into his car while out walking just minutes from her home on Thursday afternoon.
The 19-year-old was walking on a remote country road a few miles from Abbeydorney when a man, believed to be in his 50s, stopped his car and asked her if she wanted a drive to Tralee. After she refused him twice, the man got out of the car and began to approach her.
She screamed for her dog, who quickly came to her side and his growling caused the man to retreat to his car. He immediately took off in the direction of Tralee.
As soon as the frightened young woman got home she reported the incident to gardaí in Tralee. A friend said that had it not been for her dog she 'would have been long gone.'
The incident, which took place at about 3pm on Thursday afternoon, has shocked the local community, with many in the area now refusing to allow their children out alone. The girl, meanwhile, is afraid to walk the road unaccompanied since the traumatic incident.
