A LISTOWEL neighbourhood is on course for its very own community house as residents pull together for an opening date shortly after the Listowel Races.
The Feale Drive Community House is a flurry of activity at present in anticipation of the opening. Once open it will provide the residents of the estate with a warm space in which to pursue a number of interests as well as to simply meet up.
It is also hoped that it will give young people in the area a place to hang out in, play pool and many other games and pursuits.
Now, the people of the neighbourhood are being invited in ahead of schedule to get a feel for what it's all about and to see the amount of work done so far.
"On Monday, September 16, next the residents of Feale Drive are invited in for afternoon tea to view the progress on the house to date," Austin Hilliard of the Listowel Family Resource Centre said.
Donated by Listowel Town Council, the house has seen the resource centre working closely with residents to bring the vision to fruition along with the help of organisations such as North and East Kerry Development, the county and town councils, Kerry Mental Health and more.
One sporting organisation was also commended for the part it played in the project. "Na Fianna Football Club and local residents have all played their part in getting the hard work done including the clearing out of the house, redecorating and renovating," Austin added.
Austin is overseeing the activities on a daily basis along with colleague Liam Hewson. They can be contacted at Listowel Family Resource Centre on (068)23584.
