WHILE the Ring of Kerry is no stranger to an abundance of tour busses, camper vans and even bicycles, the scenic route will feature a convoy of a very different kind this weekend when over 50 trucks are expected to take part in the fourth annual Scania Ring of Kerry Truck Run.
Big hearted truckers from all around Munster will take to the Ring of Kerry on Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7, in the major fund-raising drive for Cunamh Iveragh - an organisation that works to better the lives of children and adults with intellectual disability on the Iveragh Peninsula.
The event will see participants travel from Tralee to Killarney, Kenmare and Sneem where they will overnight on Saturday and enjoy some craic and entertainment, before embarking on the return leg of the journey on Sunday.
Since the truck run was initiated four years ago, organisers and participants have raised over €60,000 for a number of worthy causes, including Children's' Leukaemia; Build4Life Cystic Fibrosis (CF), Cork's Mercy Hospital and the Brothers of Charity. Last year alone, over 70 trucks to part in the event, generating an impressive €20,000 for the Brothers of Charity.
Anyone interested in taking part in this weekend's event can contact organisers James Daly (087 2597129), Tony Nolan (087 2906923) or Jer Culloty (087 2646136). Overnight accommodation in Sneem can also be arranged through organisers.
