Local girl, Amanda Begley and her Cork friend, Roisin Bergin will travel to Belarus to volunteer in a holiday camp there this August.

On Saturday they were 'bag-packing' in Garvey's SuperValu Supermarket here in Castleisland to raise funds for their altruistic mission.

They will travel under the auspices of the Chernobyl Children's Trust. This is a non-profit making voluntary organisation. Every year the trust hosts a holiday camp for parents and children who have been affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster of April 1986.

"These are people who find themselves unable to travel to Ireland to be with a host family here. The money raised through collections goes directly to funding the families staying in these holiday camps. Funds raised over that limit are spent on buying livestock for families in Belarus," Roisin explained.

On Friday week, July 26th, Kearney's Bar here in town will host a fundraising night in aid of Chernobyl Children's Trust. The OC Trio will be playing on the night and there will be spot prizes. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the organisation.

"Finally a big thank you to Garvey's Supervalu, Castleisland for our bag-packing day. Everyone's support and contribution is greatly appreciated," said Roisin.
