KELLY'S beach was the setting for an historic day in Fenit when Fenit Rowing Club - in existence for just one year - hosted the Kerry County Rowing Championships.

"It was a fantastic day, everyone was absolutely thrilled with how it went. The committee couldn't have done enough for us, and the local support and buzz around the place was brilliant," said Kerry Coastal Rowing Club PRO Mary Teehan.

A local organising committee was set up a few months back to co-ordinate and plan this momentous event. Under the guidance of committee chairman Brian O'Sullivan and secretary John Quilter, everything was arranged to precision and went according to plan.

15 crews came from all over Kerry to Fenit to participate in this special event.

The results were even more special for Fenit as their local crews competed very well, placing in second and third positions in the veteran ladies race and third position in the veteran mixed race.

"The racing was fantastic, Fenit was an incredible place to have the championship and we will definitely be going back next year," added Mary Teehan.
