DERRYNANE Inshore Rescue may not be the biggest of units but it still costs in the region of €13,000 per year just to keep afloat and that's before equipment upgrades and training initiatives.
The unit was set up in 1995 and covers a huge stretch of coastline from Ballinskelligs Bay, along the Kenmare River and across to West Cork. There are 15 crew members on call 24-hours a day with an on average nine to 12 call-outs annually. However, the recession has meant that all grant aid has been cut to a minimum so the unit is now heavily reliant on fundraising initiatives. That's why the team has organised a special fashion fundraiser in The Sneem Hotel on Saturday, March 1.
Hosted and sponsored by The Sneem Hotel, the evening will showcase spring collections from top Kerry designers and boutiques, there will be prizes for the best dressed lady and man, a drinks reception, lots of spot prizes and an after party.
The show is being produced by Upfront PR and Model Management in association with Ray Stack Productions. Joining the Upfront Models on the catwalk will be fabulous local ladies, male models drawn from the Derrynane rescue team and well-known sports people.
Tickets cost €20 and are available from The Sneem Hotel on 064 6675100 or from Helen Wilson on 087 9081208.
The Sneem Hotel will offer a special overnight B&B rate of €40 per person sharing.
