FASHION and food came together in sublime style at a new-look restaurant in Listowel for the launch on Thursday of the town's Food Fair 2012.
Eight courses of quality local produce and a procession of elegant fashions from local boutiques meant that all comers were spoiled for the latest in culinary and sartorial tastes at the Horseshoe Bar.
It was all part of the launch of Listowel Food Fair 2012; one of the country's longest-running celebrations of local food. The fair starts on October 31 next and runs until November 4.
The launch mixed food and fashion in a unique and unusual way. The attending fashionistas sampled an eight-course menu from different producers from all over Listowel. In between courses models showcased the best designer-wear from Listowel boutiques.
"People just adored it," Food Fair organiser and renowned Listowel milner Aoife Hannon said. "It was very unique and interesting. I have met so many people since who are still talking about it and we are hoping to make it an annual event given how successful and enjoyable a way of launching the food fair it proved to be."
RTE's Marietta Doran, who was MC for the event, went down as easily as the cuisine on the night explaining the food and fashion in a highly-entertaining manner. Best of all was the local appetite for the food fair that continues to shine. "Listowel is a great town to come out and support local causes and the support we got from locals was nothing less
than fantastic!" Aoife said.
