Family tribute to famed TD Paddy Finucane
A MEMORIAL plaque commemorating the work of former north Kerry TD, Paddy Finucane, has been unveiled at Gale Bridge on the N69.
The brainchild of his nephew, well known film maker Leo Finucane, the plaque was unveiled on Sunday afternoon by Paddy Finucane's son Mick - himself a famous boxer and former Kerry footballer.
Leo Finucane explained that his uncle - who represented Kerry North as a TD from 1943 to 1969 - was famous for bringing about the implementation of the 'Brick and Cashel Drainage Scheme,' adding that the monument at the Gale Bridge was a fitting tribute to him.
"It was a great day and we had a great turn out of locals, as well as one man from Killarney who worked with Paddy on the scheme and wanted to come and be part of the celebrations."
Earlier this year, Leo produced a fascinating documentary - Father and Son - which chronicled the life of the former north Kerry TD, as well as the sporting exploits of his son Mick,
