A WEEKEND in a stunning Listowel apartment, complete with dinners at leading eateries Allo's and Behan's Horseshoe Bar and Restaurant, is one of the top prizes in a major Jockey's Emergency Fund charity event this week.

The lucky winners of the Listowel package will spend two nights in an apartment over John R's Home Bakery and Delicatessen where owner Pierse Walsh will roll out local hospitality to its full extent.

The prize also features dinner in Allo's and The Horseshoe Bar as well as tickets for a performance at St John's Theatre and a free home makeover consultation by interior expert Kay Sayers. Indeed, it was Kay who has organised the package for the Jockeys' Fund, co-opting the general contribution of Pierse and all others involved.

It's up for grabs in a charity event at Limerick Racecourse this week in support of stricken jockeys JT McNamara and Jonjo Bright, who are both recovering from serious injuries suffered on the race track. Apart from being in aid of a good cause, the fundraiser also makes for some great exposure for all Listowel has to offer as the details are now being perused by Jockeys' Fund supporters nationwide.

"We were delighted to be able to help as it is a cause that is close to the hearts of so many in Listowel, a town with great affinity for horse-racing and jockeys obviously," Pierse Walsh said. He said he was delighted with the opportunity to open his apartment to the winners - the most recent one completed to a stunning finish in the past 18 months.
