THE DEATH has occurred of Ellen Breen (nee O'Connell) of Drumcondra, Dublin and formerly of Dooneen, Castleisland, Co Kerry.
Ellen - better known to her friends as Nell, was born in Castleisland in 1920. She belonged to the O'Connell farming family of Dooneen.
Though one of the oldest in a large family she is the last to die of her siblings.
She married Denis Breen from Killarney Road and they reared eight children. They lived on a farm in Ballinahown and for a time in Killarney Road.
In 1967 she, her husband and family moved to Dublin where she lived happily until her recent death.
However, she always retained her close ties with Kerry and Castleisland, regularly visiting her sister in Sandville, Breda McCarthy, to whom she was very close and who provided her with great friendship and support throughout her life.
She always kept up to speed with events and happenings in Castleisland and looked forward with anticipation to Denis Devane's calendar every Christmas.
Ellen died on Tuesday, October 30, aged 92 years and was buried with her husband Denis in Balgriffin Cemetery on Thursday, November 1.
