'Drunken nuisance' on the street

GARDAI described as ' quite obstreperous' a Moyvane man they were forced to arrest in Listowel last November for acting in a threatening manner.

James Fitzgerald, Lower Aughrim, Moyvane, pleaded guilty to the charge of acting in a threatening and abusive manner when he appeared before Judge Mary Larkin at Listowel District Court on Thursday.

He was arrested on William Street, Listowel, on November 24 last after gardaí discovered him making a drunken ' nuisance' of himself.

Superintendent Michael Fitzpatrick said gardaí saw Mr Fitzgerald being aggressive with his girlfriend and that, during the course of his arrest, he was very aggressive and ' quite obstreperous'.

Judge Larkin directed that he be assessed by the Probation Service to see if he is suitable to carry out the court alcohol education programme, adjourning the case until March 14 next.
