A MAN who drunkenly staggered in front of cars could have caused a 'serious' accident, a Judge warned, fining him €150 for being drunk in public to the extent to causing a danger to himself and others.
Raymond Lyons, 66 Ballygologue Park, Listowel, was before Judge Mary Larkin at Listowel District Court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty to the offence. Gardaí said they had to arrest him for his own safety.
Solicitor Pat Enright told the court his client has had a 'long-standing' drink problem, describing him as 'very inoffensive' when drunk.
"If some poor inoffensive motorist was involved in an altercation with him it could be very serious," Judge Larkin remarked, fining Mr Lyons €150.
