DOGS are terrifying ducks in Listowel as careless owners allow their pets off leashes down at the river bank.
Listowel Tidy Towns say our local ducks are now being frightened out of their feathers and that the carelessness is leading to many other problems.
Cllr Jackie Barret-Madigan pointed out this week once again that it is illegal to leave a dog off its leash outside the home.
"It is also illegal to own one or more dogs without a licence and there are certain breeds that have to be muzzled," Cllr Barret-Madigan said. "You should always be aware of where your dog is and if your dog fouls in a public area you are legally bound to clear it up," she said, urging everyone to abide by the law concerning the movement of pets in public.
"If all these regulations were in place and adhered to, the Listowel Tidy Towns group would not have to ask the dog owners to refrain from leaving their animals in to the river where they are terrifying the ducks and swans in the locality of the beautiful River-Walk and its conservation area," Cllr BarretMadigan said.
