DINGLE's Castlewood House added yet another award to its trophy cabinet last week as global travel website TripAdvisor.com named the family-operated hotel the number one bargain hotel in the world.
The hotel, near Milltown Bridge, is operated by husband and wife team Brian and Helen Heaton and achieved the valuable accolade having received more positive reviews than any other hotel in its category on TripAdvisor.
Now in their twelfth year, the awards honour the world's most outstanding properties in the categories of top hotels, bargain hotels, B&Bs, inns, family, luxury, romance and small hotels with the Travellers' Choice award winners determined on the basis of reviews and opinions submitted by millions of TripAdvisor travellers around the globe.
Along with being named TripAdvisor's number one bargain hotel in the world, Castlewood House also ranked seventh in the world and second in Europe in the category of small hotels.
"These awards recognise the finest hotels across the globe, according to those that really matter - the travellers themselves," said James Kay, spokesperson for TripAdvisor.
"With more than 700,000 hotels in the running this year, what a fantastic achievement for an Irish hotel to be named the best in the world for a bargain."
Joining Castlewood House in the TripAdvisor top ten best bargain hotels in the world were the Desert Riviera Hotel, Palm Springs, California (2), Lauriston Court Hotel, Llandudno, Wales (3), Sea Coast Inn, Hyannis, Massachusetts (4), Oriental Kwai Resort, Thailand (5), Jade Hotel, Vietnam (6), Asena Motel, Turkey (7), Gateway Motel, Picton, New Zealand (8), Ilaia Hotel, Chile(9) and Dar Hafsa, Morocco (10).
TripAdvisor previously named Castlewood House as the Best Hotel in Ireland in January 2012 and the Dingle hotel received the award for Best Value Hotel at the National Hospitality Awards in October 2012.
