IT'S a taster session to help promote the German language and the pupils of St Brendan's College certainly enjoyed the day as the 'Deutschmobil' rolled into Killarney on Thursday.

Fifth year students were given the opportunity to take part in the initiative which aims to highlight the fun aspects of language learning through games, film and quizzes.

"The pupils really only have access to German in the classroom with me and when time allows we do quizzes and crosswords but this was a refreshing change away from the exam prep in the classroom," German teacher Susan Follin said.

There are 13 fifth year students studying German at the Killarney school and the day provided the perfect opportunity for the students to interact with native German speakers and with each other using the language.

After St Brendan's, the Deutschmobil travelled to Scoil Pobail Sliabh Luachra in Rathmore for more fun learning.

The Deutschmobil is a special car, equipped with carefully chosen colourful teaching materials and lecturers who provide age specific topics such as music, soccer, cars and various aspects of German life and culture.
