Crime bosses move in to take over drug trade

TWO powerful gangland figures are moving to take control of the drug trade and the wider black market in Tralee and north Kerry.
Senior gardaí are investigating reports that two prominent gangland figures are taking steps to fill a local power vacuum created by the death last month of Tralee man James Powell, who had been described by gardaí as the leading figure in Kerry's underworld.
The most prominent new figure to emerge in Kerry in recent weeks is a man based in the north Kerry area, who is understood to have strong links with dissident Republicans. The second individual is an associate of a Clare-based gangland figure, believed to have been one of the McCarthy Dundon gang's main drug suppliers and who has close and well known links to Irish and international criminals based in Spain.
