County doubles champions bring huge haul of Munster medals to Kerry

THERE was an unprecedented flow of gold and silver into the Kingdom following the Munster doubles winners competition played at the UL Sports Arena, Limerick last weekend.
These are the end of season competitions where the ladies doubles, mens doubles and mixed doubles winners of each of the Munster County Championships play off to see who would be proclaimed the overall champion of Munster in each grade.
Those who brought this unparalleled success story to Kerry are:
Grade D Ladies Doubles Darina Stack and Linda McCarthy (County, Tralee) won gold
Grade D Mens Doubles: Fergal Hannon (Listowel) and Dermot Keane (Moyvane) won silver
Grade F Ladies Doubles: Maeve Twomey (Killarney) and Lisa Sayers (Annascaul) won gold
Grade F Mens Doubles: James Flaherty (Moyvane) and Jonathan Keane (Kingdom, Castleisland) won silver
Grade F Mixed Doubles: Maeve Twomey (Killarney) and James Flaherty (Moyvane) won gold
Grade G Ladies Doubles: Marie O'Connor and Marion McSweeney (Killarney) won silver
Grade G Mixed Doubles: Krystle Crowley and Timmy Noonan (Moyvane) won gold
Grade H Ladies Doubles: Michelle Beazley and Claire Cahill (Kingdom) won gold
Grade H Mens Doubles: Alex Goggins and John O'Keefe (Killarney) won silver
The 3 Knock Out Cup finals, sponsored by Ashe's Bar, Glenbeigh, were played at the Presentation Gym, Tralee on Wednesday last before an enthusiastic crowd and each of the three finals played provided their own quota of drama and suspense right up to the final shuttle played.
The division 5 final saw Kingdom, Castleisland overcome a game Moyvane side by 4-2 with the last game on court being the deciding factor.
Castleisland: Daniel McCarthy, Daniel O'Connor, Claire Cahill, Cathy Walsh, James Beazley, Brona Finnegan
Moyvane: Brian Griffin, Noel Carroll, Michelle Corridan, Charlotte Fitzgerald, Kevin Hudson, Suzanne Keane, Micheal Nolan.
The division 4 final saw Moyvane turn the tables on Castleisland when they recorded another 4-2 success, again the last mixed game being the deciding game.
Moyvane: Timmy Flaherty, Jamie Elliott, Eleanor Sheehan, Krystal Crowley, Ivan O'Brien, Louise Behan
Castleisland: Con Finnegan, Michael O'Connor, Maria Flynn, Noelle O'Mahony, Tom Bradley, Mary Bradley
The Killarney v Moyvane division 3 final was an absolute cracker and was indeed the match of the night. It was score for score the full way through and at the end of this drama filled contest the sides were level at 3 games each. The count back of sets saw them still locked together at 7 sets each but on the count up of all points scored it proved to be Killarney's night by 236 aces to 223.
This Wednesday night, April 23, will see the last of the CPC.IE sponsored mixed league finals which will be played in the Community Centre, Castleisland commencing at 8pm and this will see another Killarney versus Moyvane confrontation.
