CONFUSION surrounds investigations into the gory discovery of seven goat heads found at Keel Pier in mid Kerry recently.
Milltown resident Kevin John made the discovery whilst walking his dogs and reported the matter to the ISPCA via email. He has shown shocking footage of the scene, recorded on his iPhone ( screengrab above), to The Kerryman. It reveals a number of dismembered body parts and dumped over a ten feet radius by the edge of the remote pier.
"Some of the parts were covered in fresh blood so they weren't long dumped," he revealed, adding: "Each head had an axe or machete wound down the middle of the skull."
The ISPCA contacted Kerry SPCA who made enquiries into the gruesome discovery. Speaking to The Kerryman, Kerry SPCA Chief Inspector Harry McDaid described the find "one of the worst" he had encountered in his job.
Despite several lines of enquiry, The Kerryman is yet to find out who is investigating the incident. Gardaí i have stated that they have received no official reports concerning the incident. A County Council spokesperson stated the find was not being investigated.
When contacted by The Kerryman, Department of Agriculture spokesperson John Quirke said the Animal ByProducts Section or the District Veterinary Office were not aware of the find.
A Department of Environment spokesperson stated it was not within its remit. At time of print, the NPWS had not returned a query asking if it was dealing with the matter.
