THE people of north Kerry are coming out in force this weekend to raise funds to help a west Limerick boy undergo surgery that will help him walk for the first time.
Two events have been planned on Friday and Saturday in aid of the ' Lets Help Glen Walk' fund - set up to cover the cost of life changing surgery for eight year old Glen Wilke from Foynes.
Glen, who is unable to sit, stand or walk unaided, will spend five weeks in St Louis' Children's Hospital in Missouri, after undergoing extensive neuro surgery. However, an estimated €60,000 needs to be raised to cover the surgery and extensive physiotherapy and after care facilities at home.
With that in mind, a group of Knocknagoshel locals are organising a head shave and leg wax in Walsh's Bar this Friday night, October 5 at 9pm. There will also be music by country music singer Shannon Buston and a host of raffle prizes on offer. Glen and his family will also be in Knocknagoshel on the night.
On Saturday, a poker run will leave O'Riada's Bar in Ballymacelligott at 12 noon, with participants asked to donate €10 to take part. The event will be followed by a rock night in the bar and anyone interested in supporting the cause are asked to conact Frank O'Connor on 087 2892758.
Donations can also be made on the mycharity.ie website or to a special AIB bank account set up for the campaign (a/c no 02121107, sort code 93-5530)
