BEAUTIFUL carols heralded the arrival of Christmas in Ballybunion on Saturday as a crowd of over 1,000 people took part in a special parade that culminated in a fireworks display over the Ladies Beach.
In a hugely successful Christmas parade for the local community, the coastal resort came alive with song and spectacle, with all the fun beginning in the festive village in the Supervalu carpark.
"It exceeded all our expectations!" one of the organisers Joanna McCarthy said. "The best thing about it was that it was organised by the whole community... everyone took part!"
Stilt- walkers, facepainters and balloon-makers kept the children happy in the festival village as all waited for the arrival of Santa Claus - who appeared on a sleigh with a very special reindeer, a reindeer of the donkey persuasion for most of the year!
From the top of the cliff at the Ladies Beach the town watched a stunning fireworks display. "It was just a fantastic event. This was our fourth or fifth year doing it and it just gets bigger and bigger!" Joanna said.
