CHRISTMAS came to Corca Dhuibhne a little bit earlier this year as An Díseart was filled with festive cheer last Sunday with the hosting of the annual Kerry Christmas Market.
Santa Claus welcomed the many visitors who braved the elements to attend the market on a very wet and windy Sunday afternoon as a vast array of local artisan food and craft producers displayed their wares.
Live music set the perfect tone and there was plenty on offer as children got into the festive spirit with face-painting and plenty of other activities to engage in.
The market showcased the best in food, arts and crafts as producers from Castlegregory, Ventry, Tralee, Killarney, Ballinskelligs, Dingle, Listowel, Lispole, Annascaul, Cloghane and Castleisland set out some very attractive stalls enabling local consumers to indulge in some early Christmas shopping.
Monsignor Pádraig Ó Fiannachta of An Sagart publications was also on hand to welcome visitors to An Díseart which is the home to the, by now, world famous Harry Clarke stained glass windows.
According to organisers, the decision was taken to host the market a little bit earlier than normal this year in an effort to boost the local economy in the run up to the festive season and to give consumers the chance to get a head start on the Christmas rush.
