FOUR years after they first launched their annual fundraising swimathon in Tralee the Kerry Branch of Enable Ireland have decided to expand the successful event which has so far raised thousands of Euro for the charity.
The yearly swimathon sees swimmers sponsored to take part in a marathon 13 hour continuous swimming relay. This year the event, which usually takes place at Tralee's Manor West Hotel Leisure Centre, has been expanded and as well as the Tralee venue swimmers will also be taking part at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre.
This year the event takes place on Sunday February 17 and Enable Ireland are calling on as many people as possible from across Kerry to get involved and do their bit for a very worthy cause.
For this interested in taking part the event runs from 8am to 9pm at Manor West Hotel and from 12pm to 5pm at the Killarney Sports and Leisure Centre.
"Each year we have a great response from people. This year is the first time we have held the event in Killarney and we are looking for swimmers to take part at the Leisure Centre in Killarney as well as the Manor West Pool. There is no age limit and we welcome swimmers of all abilities to join in. People can sign up and swim for fifteen minutes or a whole hour. It's great fun and so far we have had a great response with families and teams signing up," said event organiser Brid Brown.
If you want to take part text Swim to 087 760 9768, e-mail kerryfr@enableireland or simply give Enable Ireland a call on 066 712 8220.
There is no fundraising target and everyone who takes part will receive a swimathon medal as well as free entry into the pool. Anyone who raises more than €50 and you will receive a free swimathon t-shirt.
