CATTLE rustlers might be operating in north Kerry following two separate reports of missing livestock this week, gardaí in Listowel have warned.
A cow and a calf were stolen from a Duagh farm earlier this week after thieves broke a chain on a gate to gain entry. Both animals are worth a combined €1,400 and gardai in Listowel are appealing for anyone who might have noticed unusual behaviour in the area over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday last, October 16 and 17, to contact them.
Gardaí also received a report of a missing Friesian bull calf at a farm in Moyessa outside Listowel on Monday. The owners were unable to account for the valuable beast following a check of livestock on the farm at the weekend. However, it had been some time since they had last checked on the livestock. The filing of the two similar reports in the same week was described as 'very unusual' by gardaí who say they cannot rule out that a gang of cattle rustlers might be targeting the area.
