SUPPLIERS, staff, Tralee Town Council and the taxman are owed almost €1.3 million by the company which until recently ran Tralee's Cartlon Hotel.

The hotel, which is currently being rebranded under its original name of The Fel's Point Hotel, was last month taken over by the Dalata Hotel group with all jobs secured and the hotel remaining open for business as normal.

Last week Carlton Group subsidiary company Carlton Hotel Tralee Limited, which was set up specifically to operate the hotel chain's Tralee business, was placed in liquidation following a creditors' meeting in Dublin.

That meeting heard that Carton Hotel Tralee Ltd, which took over the running of the hotel in December 2009, currently has a total financial deficit of €1.3million of which €970,000 is owed to unsecured creditors, many of whom are Kerry businesses.

While full details of all creditors have not been made available it is known that in addition to the €970,000 owed to unsecured creditors The Carlton Hotel Tralee Limited also owes €327,965 to a number of identified 'preferential creditors' who, under Irish insolvency law, are entitled to be paid ahead of any other creditors.

These are the Revenue Commissioners who are owed €99,258, employees who are owed entitlements of €61,112 and Tralee Town Council which is owed outstanding commercial rates of €167,596.

At the creditors meeting it was revealed that the company currently has €126,235 available for preferential creditors from which the fees of the liquidator must first be paid.

The largest unsecured creditor is Dublin based international facilities management company Abbey Facilities Limited which is owed €210,305. Other unsecured creditors, from Kerry and farther afield, are understood to include local butchers, entertainers, food suppliers, IT and hotel reservations providers and taxi companies.
