Button accordion stolen in Kenmare

Cathy Cook with the distinctive accordion stolen from her van.

At some point during the recent Kenmare Music Festival a Castagnari accordion disappeared from a van belonging to a West Cork based accordion player, fiddler, music teacher and craftswoman, Cathy Cook.

"It spoiled what was an otherwise lovely festival. Anyone who knows me knows the fiddle is my main instrument, but I occasionally get the box out," said Cathy who will be known here for her visits to the Patrick O'Keeffe Traditional Music Festival – where she regularly teams up with Gerry Harrington in sessions.

"I thought I'd locked the van, but when I got back the accordion was gone. It's a small two row box, with a stepped keyboard, in DG tuning, so not the most saleable box in Ireland anyway. It's in a black case with green plush lining," she said in an appeal and in hope of getting the instrument back.

Anyone with information on the stolen accordion can contact the numbers at the head of this page or Cathy Cook directly on: cathykcook@gmail.com or on: 086 066 0960.
